Fortaleza: Graffiti in the streets

Due to the restrictions also in place in Brazil it was difficult for comrades organized with Federação das Organizações sindicalistas revolucionárias do Brasil (FOB) to arrange activities for May Day.

Nonetheless the general autonomous union of Ceará (SIGA-CE) affiliated with FOB did send us some pictures of agitation activities. Their focus is currently on a campaign against president Bolsonaro and for an unconditional basic income (emergency aid) in the context of the pandemic in Brazil.

Hamburg: Video, Banners and Stroll in the City

Some comrades in the city district Wilhelmsburg prepared this banner:

The Free Workers’ Union (FAU) Hamburg prepared a solidarity video:

And also dropped a banner at the autonomous center Schwarze Katze (Black Cat):

There was a lot of confusion. Initially some neo-nazi groups announced to rally in Harburg for May Day, which was in the end forbidden by the authorities. Unfortunately so was the planned rally of the local May Day alliance, of which FAU Hamburg is part of.
Nonetheless some comrades took a stroll through the district. Currently a person can be charged almost 180 Euros if on the streets with more than one other person.

Furthermore a broadcast on the Global May Day was aired on the local radio station FSK. It’s mostly in German but also includes messages from the Forum of IT workers (FITE), the Free Workers’ Union (FAU) Marburg-Gießen-Marburg as well as FAU Marburg all in English:

Stuttgart: Statements in public and at home

Comrades of the Free Workers’ Union (FAU) Stuttgart displayed the goals expressed in the call for the Global May Day in public and at home:

Bristol/Bournemouth: Banners in the streets

Statement released by Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) Bristol:

Fellow Workers,
To mark and celebrate May Day this year members of Bristol IWW and Bristol Green Anti-Capitalist Front held a banner drop outside of BASE, an anarchist community centre that has become an essential mutual aid hub for the local community.
This May Day is a time to celebrate the victories of the labour movement and an invitation to challenge ourselves to build new programmes and organise outside of the state and the economy.
We send our solidarity to all the other organisations and individuals participating in the Global May Day 2020 and hope that like us, you see today as the beginning of more actions in a struggle for the liberation of the working class and the natural world from the exploitation of the wage system.
Together the working class will overcome Covid-19 and the capitalist virus.
Solidarity Forever!

Sri Lanka: Mutual Aid for Garment Workers

On May Day the feminist Dabindu Collective gave out rations of groceries to garment workers within the Free Trade Zone Katunayake, nearby the capital city Colombo.

Due to the prevailing situation the Dabindu Collective offered dry rations to the garment workers of Katunayake Free Trade Zone. There are still workers staying in boarding houses waiting to be able to return to their hometown. They have no income and can’t get to their families because public transport is shut down.
The distribution was supported by the National Union of Seafarers Sri Lanka & International Transport Workers’ Federation (NUSS).

Kabul+Iran: Graffiti at police stations/ Video message

Slogans on police stations in Kabul:

AS LONG AS THE STATE EXISTS, THE WORKERS ARE NEEDY AND DEPENDENT ON IT!
ONE WORLD. ONE STRUGGLE.
WORKERS’ UNITY!

Creating a video with a May Day message from Iran:

The capitalist system, as the ruling class system, plays a deadly and destructive role in today’s society, where we clearly see the brutal exploitation of man and nature in favor of the ruling and capitalist classes. Capitalism draws from the oppression and control of government institutions, racism and prejudiced hatred, which exploits all of us and continues its wretched existence.

In addition to capitalism, Iranians are fighting another deadly government called the Islamic Republic of Iran. Workers who worked without pay for months are suffering from unemployment and poverty due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Many deprived and working-class people in Iran have been forced to work and risk contracting the coronavirus only to put food on their tables. Proper health and sanitation conditions are a privilege that most workers are deprived of. Instead of helping the people, the government is propagandizing and propagating lies about how well they have dealt with this crisis. The regime refused to hospitalize and care for Afghan Coronavirus-contracted patients and other vulnerable sections of society. They collect masks and health products for themselves and their agents. In the midst of this crisis, they are exploiting their citizens with high-interest loans.

Like the rest of the capitalist world, they want to open up the bazaar, the economy, and religious sites even though they are well aware that they are endangering the lives of innocent people. So far, 3600 of Iranians have been arrested by law enforcement and the Basij for reporting on the actual number of corona cases, and 1,136 lawsuits have been filed against them.

The struggle for our liberation begins when we understand our existence in a connected world and similarity of oppression and tyranny everywhere. Our struggle is as interconnected as our world. We need to build global solidarity networks to continue this struggle and win.
