For the past few months various workers organized in different syndicates and unions have been coordinating a common framework for the Global May Day 2021. The framework basically consists of a call to action (English, German, Spanish, Portuguese), common symbols (below) as well as good communication (e.g. informing the mailing list).
Initial supporters of this year’s call: Central Organisation of the Workers of Sweden (SAC), Federation of Syndicalist Organisations Brasil (FOB), Free Workers’ Union (FAU) Hamburg, Garment Workers’ Trade Union Center (GWTUC, Bangladesh), Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) Bristol.

A nivel mundial, nosotros, los trabajadores asalariados, nos vemos obligados a una competición para incrementar cada vez más el valor adicional obtenido de la cadena de producción. Independientemente de nuestro lugar de residencia, de nuestro género/sexo, nacionalidad, lo queramos o no, estamos implicados en la misma lucha. Los recortes presupuestarios en los servicios sociales, la subcontratación, los salarios cada vez más exiguos, privatizaciones, incremento del coste de la vida, así como las tasas de las matrículas para las y los estudiantes y la destrucción de los ecosistemas naturales, son solo algunos de los síntomas del sistema económico global. Un sistema que está basado en la explotación y en la competición, conduce a una mercantilización de todos los aspectos de nuestra vida.

Weltweit werden wir, die Lohnabhängigen, in einen Wettbewerb zueinander gesetzt, um die Mehrwertproduktion anzukurbeln und überhaupt erst zu ermöglichen. Egal wo wir wohnen, welches Geschlecht wir haben, welche Nationalität uns zugeschrieben wird, wir sind im selben Kampf verwoben, ob wir wollen oder nicht. Kürzungen sozialer Dienstleistungen in öffentlichen Haushalten, Outsourcing, das Drücken von Löhnen, Privatisierungen, ansteigende Lebenshaltungskosten sowie Studiengebühren und die Zerstörung natürlicher Grundlagen sind nur einige Symptome, die im direkten Zusammenhang mit dem globalen Wirtschaftssystem stehen. Ein System, welches auf Ausbeutung und Wettbewerb basiert und die Kommerzialisierung aller Lebensbereiche vorantreibt.

This meeting will be a final attempt to coordinate a common framework for a Global May Day 2021.
A call to action needs to be finalized! So far FOB (Brazil) and CGT (Spain) submitted proposals to include universal basic income (Basic Income for Equal Citizens). Other than that the call would be based on the common call used for 2020 with a particular focus on the pandemic.
